The aftermath was devastating. “You think your life is over,” Nicol recalls in her powerful interview. “The sickness, sleep deprivation, depression, and dramatic weight loss forced me to put my football career on hold.” The psychological toll was immense – facing laughter in rooms, fearing judgment from family and friends, and battling the constant anxiety of how people perceived her.
Finding Strength Through Football and Community
The women’s football community became Nicol‘s sanctuary during her darkest days. “The female footballing world is such an amazing community,” she emphasizes. “No matter what badge you’re wearing, everyone pulls together.” This support system played a crucial role in helping her regain self-belief and learn to look in the mirror without shame.
However, the response from the men’s game was initially different. Nicol acknowledges: “I know what went on in their group chats, how I was spoken about. That wasn’t nice.” But after speaking out, she noticed a significant shift in attitudes. “Now when I walk into rooms, I feel so much respect. Telling my story changed everything.”
Transforming Pain Into Purpose
Media lawyer Matt Himsworth reached out after reading Nicol‘s story on Crickex, leading to an unexpected career pivot. She transitioned from coaching to working with B5 Consultancy, educating young athletes about online safety and the consequences of intimate image abuse.

Her seminars with Premier League and EFL academies have become profoundly impactful. “Every time I walk in that room I get scared,” she admits. “But seeing these young lads realize I’m a real person with family, friends, and normal problems – that moment of connection fills my heart with love.”
The Ongoing Fight for Justice and Change
Nicol has become a leading voice in the legal battle against platforms facilitating intimate image abuse, including high-profile litigation against Pornhub. “It’s about justice, not money,” she states firmly. “I want companies held accountable to make the online world safer.”
Despite progress, the abuse continues daily. “You revisit it every single day of your life,” Nicol shares. “But I’ve learned to utilize my experience to help others without a voice.” Her message to fellow victims is honest yet hopeful: “Ride the storm. It won’t be OK now, but it will be OK.”
Football as Healing and Hope
Through it all, football remains Nicol’s passion and source of resilience. “If I’m dropped now, it’s a small issue compared to what I’ve survived,” she reflects. This perspective shift has given her remarkable strength: “I can deal with anything.”
